Permit Services Center

Welcome to the Permit Services Center. On March 8, 2011, the Board of County Commissioners agreed to implement several streamlining initiatives in order to assist customers in the local development review and permitting processes. This website is under construction, developing as we find ways to make it work for you more effectively. We hope it meets many of your information needs and we look forward to working with you.

The Permit Services Center will serve as a gateway to resources located in several departments and agencies throughout St. Mary's County. From building permits to marriage licenses, we hope this new resource will help answer your questions and get you started on the appropriate application process.

Each year, we perform thousands of inspections and review hundreds of plans. Every work day, we meet homeowners, building representatives, designers, contractors, concerned neighbors and others who need development-related information and assistance – on everything from replacing a hot water heater to remodeling a bathroom, building a new home, expanding a business or constructing a new school.

We are regulators, facilitators, and most importantly, public servants. We aim to provide responsive, courteous, professional service to each individual customer while protecting the public's interest in a safe, livable community.
